Who doesn't love wet weather footy, especially when it locks in a semi-final spot!
In what was a pretty torrid affair at times, our girls turned in a stellar defensive performance which saw them outlast the Sharks to secure 4th spot on the ladder to finish the season proper. What was an outstanding achievement for our first year in HNWP was secured when local product Maddy Shoemark dived over from dummy half to see the girls take the lead and then hang on, on a muddy Rex Jackson Oval. The girls will welcome back Kez and Jess, who missed the game due to Origin duty, as they take on St Mary's this Saturday, 1:15pm at Campbelltown Sports Ground in our do-or-die semi-final clash. 2 gutsy wins on the trot for our 2nd Division boys against competition heavyweights Avondale and Figtree having them pushing for a top 4 spot as we enter the back end of the season.
Backing up from what was easily the best game of footy of the year down at Avondale which saw our boys run away with the game late, the 2nd division lads came away with the 2 points against 2nd placed Figtree in a muddy affair at Rex Jackson Oval. Spurred on by the addition of some key pieces like newcomers Dane Courtney & Luke Mason, as well as the return of Brayden Colenso & Nick Plunkett, the boys are primed for a late run at semi-final footy. As we near the midway point of the season, our men's 1st Division side remain undefeated at the top of the ladder.
A big performance against Corrimal in round 5 was backed up with a dominant display against a strong West's team. The boys running in 9 tries in a 44-10 romp. With plenty of improvement left in the team, things are looking bright as we head into the second half of the season. Our Tigerlillies are starting to hit their straps in the HNWP with 2 thumping victories in the last 2 weeks, keeping our hopes of finals footy alive.
The girls totally dominated the Wentworthville Magpies at home before travelling to Henson Park on Sunday to face Glebe. In what was a tight affair early on, the scores were locked at 10 all at half time, before a second half master class which produced 40 points, put us right back in contention for a finals berth. With 3 rounds remaining, and 3 very winnable games ahead, the girls hold their own future in their hands and they strive to make history for the club. After a strong showing against a Dapto side bolstered by a number of Premier League players, our boys have gone to 2-0 on the season with a 36-14 victory.
Jesse Cobb was once again a standout, scoring a couple of tries and slotting goals from everywhere, taking out players player honours, while Jordy Bowles showed his class in the halves, scoring a pair of his own tries and pulling off plenty of bone rattling tackles, in what was an all round performance from the half, jagging Man of the Match. The boys take on a solid Collies outfit in a 1st vs 2nd show down at Collegians Sports Complex at 3pm. Our 2nd Division boys are also chomping at the bit to get back on the park this weekend and will take on Berkeley at Berkeley Sports Ground, also at 3pm. 2nd Division have added some quality recruits since their last outing, and with a bit of time to gel, they are set to turn things around. Our HNWP Tigerlillies have been bolstered by the addition of 5 Tarsha Gale Cup Steeler's girls for the remainder of the season. After a strong Tarsha Gale campaign, which took them to the semi finals, their addition to the squad will be a vital boost for the depth chart during the long HNWP season.
Headlining the new comers is Teagan Berry, a classy fullback/outside back who made her NRLW debut last season for the Dragons. She is joined by centre pairing Keele Brown and Olivia Vale, who returns to the Lillies after playing here as a junior, along with another local product in Madysson Shoemark and promising young half Riley Scott. All 5 girls will be pushing for selection in the team this week against St Mary's and there is no doubt, you will be seeing plenty of them as the season progresses. The NRL website pays tribute to the huge lengths our girls are going to as they test themselves against the best this state has to offer.

In all, there have been 25 women selected for the Jillaroo's who have come from the Illawarra Rugby League system. What is most amazing, 9 of these, have come from our great club in the last decade. Truly highlighting the power of the Tigerlillies within Women's Rugby League. Our very own Kezie Apps and Sammy Bremner were part of the ceremony which also included Women's Rugby League pioneer, Tarsha Gale. Can't wait to see our current Jillaroo's, Kezie, Sammy and Jess lead a new breed of Tigerlilly onto Rex Jackson Oval this Saturday @12.30pm as they take on the Roosters in our first ever Harvey Norman Women's Premiership game! |
